Fast warming vs gentle warming
This is the distinction the category is built on, and almost nobody explains it.
Steam warmers inject hot steam around the bottle. They are quick and cheap, and they can overheat milk if you misjudge the dial or walk away. Overheating matters more with breast milk than with formula, because excessive heat degrades some of the components that make breast milk what it is.
Warm-water warmers sit the bottle in circulating warm water at a controlled temperature. Slower, gentler, much harder to get wrong. This is why the Baby Brezza wins: it is the version of this appliance that cannot easily ruin a bag of milk you spent twenty minutes pumping.
If you are warming breast milk rather than formula, pay the extra for controlled warming. If you are warming formula you made five minutes ago, either is fine.
What to look for
Whether your bottles actually fit
The number one complaint about every warmer on the market is that someone's bottles do not fit the well. Short, wide bottles (Comotomo, Tommee Tippee, some glass) are the usual casualties. Auto shut-off
You will fall asleep with a bottle in this thing. Auto shut-off is not a luxury feature for a device used at 4am, and not every model has it — check the specific version, because it varies within product lines.
A keep-warm mode you should use carefully
Keep-warm is convenient and it is also a way to leave milk sitting at a warm temperature for a long time. Per CDC storage guidance, milk left over after a feed should be used within two hours, and freshly expressed milk keeps up to four hours at room temperature. Warm it when you are ready to feed, not an hour before.
Descaling, if your water is hard
Every water-based warmer scales up. The ones with removable water chambers are easier to deal with. It is not a dealbreaker, but it is the reason a warmer stops working properly after a year.
Whether it also warms baby food
Several of these take jars as well as bottles, which extends their useful life by about six months into the solid-food period. Worth a few dollars if you are choosing between two similar units.
Worth saying plainly

Do I need a bottle warmer?

Can I use a bottle warmer for breast milk?
Yes, and it is the main use case — but choose a controlled warm-water model rather than an aggressive steam one, because excessive heat is not good for breast milk. Then follow CDC guidance on how long warmed milk can sit.
What temperature should a bottle be?
Body temperature is the usual target, and the practical test is a few drops on the inside of your wrist: it should feel neutral, neither warm nor cool. Hotter than that is too hot.
How long can a bottle sit in a keep-warm setting?
